Woman in Syria’s northeast Hasakah recovered from coronavirus tells her experience

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Ahin Ali, mother of a nurse who works in the laboratory of the public hospital in Syria’s northeastern city of Hasakah was able to overcome her infection with coronavirus, she told her story on Saturday.

She said she felt the symptoms three weeks ago, where she notified the hospital management and requested a PCR test.

She was tested positive.

“I felt pain and other aches gradually,” she said. “At the beginning, there was a gradual fever and arthritis which bothered me and let me use analgesic pills and fever reducer three times a day, while cough appeared for one day only.”

Therefore, she stayed at home with her husband and the other eight-year-old daughter and preferred to keep away from other people to prevent the spread of the virus.

“We relied on our neighbor, the grocer to meet the daily needs in addition to one of the relatives in meeting our needs and supplies.”

Fear and high morale

Ahin told North-Press that with the international media coverage of the deadly disease she felt fear with anxiety upon receiving the result.

Soon she and her husband, who also tested positive, started tightening the measures and face the pandemic with high spirits without panic.

The experience of the couple who work in medical laboratories in Hasakah, in addition to their awareness made it easier for both to deal with the disease and bear the other health and social pressures.

While staying at home and withstanding the new social condition imposed on them by the disease, their youngest daughter was allowed to go out of the house a little while wearing the mask, but she suffered from bullying by the neighbors’ children who avoided playing with her.

As she announced her infection on her personal Facebook account, Ahin turned her infection story into a platform from which she was telling her experience to her friends on social media.

A relative of Ahin living in a European country contacted her for advice about the infection.

A 70-year-old man was also infected in the city of Qamishli.

As the old man collapsed when he was informed of his infection with the virus, Ahin contacted him and explained the disease and how to deal with it, then the situation changed positively.

Ahin warned about leaving the elderly alone in their home quarantine, and not handling the matter psychologically. “Some feel the infected as he/she is on the verge of death, they stress the imposition of isolation on them, and destroy them morally and psychologically.”

“Mine and my husband’s strong body and our immunity were sufficient to fight the virus, but we were interested in eating healthy fresh food, including vegetables and fruits, exposure to the sunshine daily, and taking regular doses of antipyretics, in addition to dealing with our condition with high spirits,” Ahin said.

Ahin stressed on announcing when someone is infected, adhere to quarantine, and keep away from the others in order to reduce its spread, especially among the elderly who suffer from other diseases that may be a reason for weakening their body’s immunity.

In addition to her work in the lab, Ahin runs the Balsam Health Awareness Center, in which she gives awareness sessions on health issues and common diseases.

She is a graduate of a health institute, laboratory department, and holds a BA degree in Law as well.

Ahin was able to overcome the deadly disease that claimed thousands of lives around the world.

She became a reliable source of dealing with the disease properly.

She also became a reference for many patients and their families.

“I forgot the virus and was busy easing the pressure of social media friends and answering their inquirers,” she said.
