Terrible Suffering and Increase Number of Refugees in Samidon Camp in Idlib Countryside
Another camp, another suffering.. Samidon camp, where the story of Syrian suffering going on..
Samidon camp north of Salqin town in north-western Idlib is suffering from a terrible lack in social and health services.
The camp lacks a lot of services specially after the increase number of the refugees due to the last military developments in Idlib.
The camp consists of 4000 refugees from northern and western countryside in Hama and from southern countryside in Idlib. After the recent escalation in the villages and towns of Sahil Al-Ghab and the control of armed factions on Kafranboda, same number of refugees emigrated to it.
“The number of the refugees came from Sahil Al-Ghab northern countryside in Hama and southern countryside in Idlib to Samidon camp is nearly twice the number of the refugees in the camp, this is of course too much comparing with capacity of the camp.” Abdulqader Ibrahim, the director of the camp, told North Press.
Pointing out to the efforts by the directorate of the camp in order to secure the refugees, especially after the consumption of the tents in the warehouses saying: “There are no tents or blankets. We, as directorate of refugees humanitarian and camps affairs, emptied tents warehouses for the refugees to stay in. Some of them live under trees and those who have some money, could buy tents and stay in.”
Concerning the difficulties they face, Ibrahim said: “Existing blocks have been destroyed, some partially and some completely. The sewage works according to the temporary procedures, it needs fixing and full maintenance, and this is hard because of the directorate’s budget shortfall.”
“We call on the organizations to come to the gathering of Salqin and Harem to help our refugees people in all the camps in the area.” The directorate of the camp appealed.
Om Sha’lan, one of the refugees women who came last to the camp complains to North Press about cutting off aids saying: “We fled under shelling and arrived here, there is no tent to protect us, no enough food and no one provide us with any food basket.”
Mohammad Al-Akhras, an emigrant from Al-Ghab village, called on the organizations to intervene saying: “We didn’t get anything, we stayed under trees, we need help from the organizations. Here, there is no electricity, no water and no houses protecting us.”
Samidon camp was established in 2013, and for two years, it was supported by Banafsaj organization and it stopped after that.
There was a health center in the camp, but it became out of service because the support stopped.
The camp was attacked in 2016 by unknown aircrafts causing deaths and injuries among civilians, and damaged the camp.
