Pentagon: Russia-Turkey relationship in Syria should worry Europe.
US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Catherine Wilburger warned of the dangers Washington will face if NATO buys Russian anti-air S-400 systems.
“The growing cooperation between Russia and Turkey in Syria, even if the relations between the two countries are often tense, should also worry Europe, especially  NATO”. Catherine Wilburger said in a speech at the Atlantic Council in Washington.
She pointed out that “among the most prominent concerns is the deal between Moscow and Ankara on the purchase of Turkey’s S-400 Russian, considering that the completion of this deal will result in “catastrophic consequences” not only for the development program of the fighter-bomber, the new F-35, “This could lead to cooperation between Turkey and its NATO
Allies becoming impossible. It is of a crucial importance to ensure NATO’s defense of itself.”
“Let’s be clear and say that the S-400 is a Russian system specially developed to shoot down F-35s”, said the assistant.
“It is not reasonable for Russia to miss such an opportunity to collect information.”
Ankara has repeatedly stressed its intention to complete its deal with Russia on the acquisition of Russian anti-aircrafts S-400 systems, despite pressure from the United States to leave the deal.
