During a press conference held on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Iranian forces must leave all of Syria, and not only from southwestern of the country, describing the Iranian regime as "terrorist".

“The very terror regime that we talk about in the Islamic Republic of Iran has got a campaign that supports what Assad has done…the Iranian regime is responsible for that in the same way the Syrian regime is.” Pompeo said.

The US opposes Iranian presence in Syria and considers its exit one of its most important goals, according the statements of various US officials.

"We have been very clear to the Assad regime and the Russians all along: The Iranians need to leave…we hope they’ll rethink that and get back to doing what Iran needs to do, which is take care of its own people in this very difficult time inside the Islamic Republic of Iran. We think those resources could be much better used to support the Iranian people." Pompeo said.

Pompeo's statements came a day after a speech of a senior commander in the Israeli army about the fact that, "Iran started decreasing the volume of its forces and evacuating its military bases in Syria."

A few days ago, media reports mentioned of an Israeli air strike on positions of Iranian-backed groups in eastern Deir ez-Zor in Syria’s east.
