Iran warns Sudanese from countries that have “Precedents”

As a first Iranian position on the crisis in Sudan, Iran warned of the intervention of foreign powers in the Sudanese crisis, after dozens were killed in the dispersal of the sit-in in front of the Ministry of Defense headquarter in Khartoum.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Abbas al-Musawi, expressed concern over the escalation of conflict over power in Sudan and turning the country into a battleground for external powers, stressing the need to pay attention to the demands of the people, and the importance of handing matters over to civilians.

According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, Musawi expressed his sympathy and condolences to the families of the killed and victims of the recent events, as well as he asserted on the need of handing over internal affairs in Sudan to civilians.

He added that it was necessary for all the conflict parties in this crisis to avoid the approach of accusations, deepen internal hatred and mistrust between different groups and components, and work to get out of the crisis through political methods, democracy and dialogue among them.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman warned against foreign interference, which would lead to further complication and prolongation of the crisis. He called for the Sudanese people to be alert to the parties who have a history in provoking violence, extremism, supporting and promoting terrorism.

He added; “We are deeply concerned about the conflict over power in this country and turning it into an arena for the struggle of foreign powers.”

During the last few days, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the UAE have met officials of the Sudanese military council. These countries have declared their support for the “Sudanese dialogue”,  while Sudanese opposition forces accuse these countries of supporting the military council.
