An Iraqi intelligence official said that his country had received more than 1,143 Islamic State members from Syrian Democratic Forces till the end of last May.
Director of the Iraqi Military Intelligence, Major General Saad Mezher Al-Alaq, said in a press statement that his administration “continues to participate in the process of receiving terrorists from Syria, in coordination with the Syrian Democratic Forces.”
Al-Alaq clarified that the number of ISIS militants, who were received until last May, of both locals and foreigners, reached (1143) members, mostly local.
The Military Intelligence Director said that the second phase would be “to take advantage of the accused in the process of detecting the members of the terrorist group to which he belongs, the most important places of their presence and their future intentions, to conduct a preemptive operation against terrorist elements.”
“The Final Stage” as Mezher Al-Alaq called, they will follow the mechanism of “handing over the accused to the requesting authority according to the fundamental arrest warrant issued by the competent courts, after disclosing all the information he has.”
Also, Al-Alaq explained that members of the Islamic State belong to 41 Arab and Western nationalities, and their numbers vary from one country to another.
Last April, Al-Alaq proposed to the US-led international coalition, for setting up an international court in Iraq to try the Islamic State militants, who were previously arrested by the Syrian Democratic forces during the battles of liberating Syrian territories from ISIS for two billion dollars, but Baghdad has not received a response so far, according to Iraqi government officials.
While the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (NES) and the Syrian Democratic Forces demand the establishment of an international court within their areas, under international supervision, or the need to send back the terrorist group members to their countries.
