During an investigation by the Iraqi judiciary on Wednesday, a suspect accused of carrying out terrorist operations in both Baghdad and al-Anbar governorates, admitted that he received training in Turkey and is a member of ISIS.

The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council issued a statement, in which it stated that the Central Investigation Court of the Presidency of the Federal Resumption Court of al-Rasafah, certified on Wednesday the statements of two men accused of carrying out many terrorist operations in both Baghdad and al-Anbar governorates, according to the Iraqi News Agency.

“The first accused admitted to belonging to ISIS and detonating many explosive devices against the army forces,” the statement said, noting that the accused had received administrative and military training courses in Turkey before starting his terrorist activities, as the Iraqi News Agency quoted.

The statement added that, “the second terrorist admitted before the investigating judge that he joined ISIS and set up a fake checkpoint in a modern city targeting civilians and security forces.”

In a related context, on Tuesday, the Iraqi Security Media Cell announced the arrest of the official for the ISIS executions committee earlier this week.

On Monday, Iraqi forces announced the start of the “Ramadan First operation”, to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in the Akashat desert in al-Anbar governorate after receiving information that ISIS sleeper cells had resumed activity in the area.
