Hospital Out of Service after Russian Raids South on Idlib
As part of the campaign launched by the Russian and Syrian air forces, several vital, health and medical centers were targeted.
“Nabd Al-Hayat” Hospital in Hass town, a southern countryside of Idlib, has recently been subjected to several airstrikes by Russian and Syrian forces that led the hospital to be completely out of service.
“On 5/5/2019, at approximately 10.30 am, Nabd Al-Hayat surgical hospital was shelled by two rockets of the Syrian warplane which fell exactly beside the hospital”. Obeida Al-Tarraf, Media Office manager of Nabd Al-Hayat Hospital of SRD organization, to North Press
However, the threat did not end that day, because of the heavy air raids on villages and towns, especially hospitals, medical points and civil defense centers.
The hospital was fully damaged because it was targeted again.
On this regard, Al-Tarraf said, “At about 3 pm the hospital was attacked by two Russian air force planes. Each raid was accompanied by three thermobaric rockets that directly hit the hospital and causing severe damage, which we could not have known at that time.”
Ferocity of the campaign increased due to the intensive shelling on Hass and its surroundings, moreover, the warplanes targeted the mosque and the popular market with several raids caused displacement of the people from the town.
Al-Tarraf also added that the Russian military air force continued shelling; the hospital was targeted for the third time at the same day.
“At approximately 2:00 am, the hospital was shelled by other two Russian thermobaric-rockets fell at the emergency exit of the hospital and closed it”.
“On the morning of the second day, the hospital was subjected to several helicopter raids about /7/ raids, which resulted in a complete destruction for the hospital. The destruction was about 80% with severe damage to ambulances, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy.” He said.
These raids were not the first of its kind, as the very first raid was in the last year.
Al-Tarraf continued: “On 27/3/2018, Russian warplanes raided the hospital with two highly explosive rockets that caused damage to the properties and the hospital’s facilities. After several maintenance and rehabilitation works, we were able to reactivate the medical work of the hospital and return all its sections to service “.
On 8/9/2018, the hospital was destroyed and out of service again where “it was targeted by two explosive barrels dropped by the warplanes and fell on the hospital directly, which led to the destruction of the hospital and to be of service for a period of time.”
Furthermore, the recent raids have destroyed the hospital and its infrastructures completely to be out of work without leaving a glimmer of hope in re-opening it again.
