The UN Deputy Secretary-General Farhan Haq said that dozens of civilians, including children and women, have been killed in shelling on Idlib during the last five days, coinciding with the ongoing escalation in the region.

In a press conference, Haq mentioned the death of more than 30 civilians, including women and children, in hostilities in the de-escalation zones since July 12.

“The hostilities attacks also caused damage to civilian infrastructure, some of which resulted in the cessation of clean water for thousands of people,” he added at the UN Headquarters.

Meanwhile, the Syrian and Russian fighter jets started their escalation campaign on the de-escalation zones in northwestern Syria, after a relative and cautious calmness prevailed in the region for hours last night.

Since today’s morning, the Russian and Syrian fighter jets have targeted the areas of Termala, Kafr Ein, Hizareen, Madaya and Kafr Sijnah in the southern countryside of Idlib.

While the town of Latamina in the northern countryside of Hama, the areas of Sirmaniyah, al-Zeyarah, al-Amqiyah, Qarqor, Tal Wasat, and Duwayr al-Akrad in al-Ghab plain in the north-western countryside of Hama were subjected to heavy aerial bombardment.

Furthermore, the Syrian government forces also targeted by artillery shells the armed opposition groups’ positions in Hawija, Alhosh, Kastoun, and Zaizoun, northwest of Hama.

It’s worth mentioning that the United Nations continues the process of urging the parties of the conflict in Syria to respect their commitments under the international humanitarian law and to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and practice self-control.
