Latakia – North-Press Agency
Successive explosions were heard in Jabla in Latakia governorate in northwestern Syria, as a result of a new attack on the main Russian military airbase in Syria.
The attack was carried out by drones, which attacked Russian Hmeimim military airbase again after 25 days of the last attack.
The attack comes despite the Syrian and Russian allegations of trying to remove the danger of the armed opposition groups away from the Russian military airbase in Syria, which was earlier visited by the Russian President Vladimir Putin where he met with military commanders and with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
On May 1, 2019, Hmeimim Airbase was targeted by missiles attack by the opposition groups, accompanied by a response by the Russian air defenses to these missiles, where the damage was limited to materials without reports about casualties.
On January 6, 2018, the Russian base witnessed the first drone strike after a missile attack on the airport area at the end of December 2017, following a visit by the Russian President Vladimir Putin to the airbase on 11 of the same month.
