Russian-Turkish discussions over Syria, Russian airstrikes on Latakia countryside

The Russian fighter jets have resumed their raids on the de-escalation zones in northwestern Syria, after being absent from the airspace since 31 of August, coinciding with a new Russian-Turkish discussions regarding the status quo in the region. Turkish media outlets reported that a telephone conversation between the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu during which they discussed the situation in the de-escalation zones, the Constitutional Commission and the implementation of the outputs of the 13th Astana Meeting. While field sources confirmed to North-Press that the Russian fighter jets have resumed this morning the bombardment on the area of Kabanah in al-Akrad Mountain in northeastern Latakia countryside, causing material damage, without any information regarding casualties. The sources added that the Syrian government forces have shelled areas in Deir al-Sharki, Deir al-Gharbi, Maar Shoreen, Sheikh Mustafa and Maarat Harma in the southern part of Idlib, without any information regarding casualties. After midnight, the Syrian government forces also targeted areas in Kafr Nabl, Kafr Sajnah, al-Tah and Heesh in Idlib countryside. It’s noteworthy that the Russian Reconciliation Center of the Ministry of Defense had unilaterally announced a new ceasefire in Idlib, since the dawn of Saturday, 31 August. Meanwhile, the Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis has announced that the extent of damage to the government institutions and the Syrian economy since 2011 has exceeded 45,000 billion Syrian pounds, equivalent to about $87 billion.
