SDF kills an ISIS security member south of Hasakah

Hasakah – North-Press Agency

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) carried out a security operation at today’s early morning, south of Hasakah to arrest one of the leaders of the Islamic State (ISIS) group, called Abu Hareth al-Iraqi, who was attempting to flee the location of the operation, but he was killed at the end.

SDF special sources told North-Press that the Counter-Terrorism Units of the SDF, in coordination with the Global Coalition forces have been observing Abu Hareth al-Iraqi for several months, in an attempt to arrest him alive.

Abu Hareth al-Iraqi is a senior official in the terrorist group, he was the commander of the security section of Iraqi Diyala province in 2013, in addition to being the prince of the group of assassination operations south of Mosul, and as one of the leaders who took command of ISIS sleeper cells on the Syrian-Iraqi borders.

The source indicated that after their forces raided the house where the Iraqi jihadi was located, it appeared that he was hiding in a tunnel with other militants, which led to an exchange of fire between the two sides, which was ended in killing ISIS amir by Counter-Terrorism Units (HAT).

The SDF, in coordination with Global Coalition forces, conduct almost daily security operations to capture ISIS sleeper cells’ members, which are still active in large areas of the territories which they had already lost, last March.
