A Lebanese analyst mentioned, on Monday, the Israeli attempts of stopping Iran’s supplies to Syria and Lebanon by conducting strikes on Albukamal city.
Following a week, strikes by unidentified war planes have struck Albukamal area killing and injuring dozens of Iranian forces, as Israel has targeted Iranian positions in al-Heri area nearby Albukamal city, west of the Euphrates River close to the Syrian-Iraqi borders.
The Lebanese analyst George Alam told North-Press that “Israel could be behind these strikes, because they came after a visit by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Moscow, and announced after his meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin that his country would continue its strikes against the Iranian positions in Syria”.
“Albukamal city is a strategic road, it is a major channel at military and economic levels, therefore, there is an Israeli interests in closing this corridor and possibly permanently”, he added.
Moreover, the Lebanese analyst explained that the Israeli tendency “aims to stop what Israel calls Iranian military supplies, which come to Iraq then to Syria and perhaps Lebanon, as disrupting the road would affect the economy of more than one country”.
According to Alam, the strategic site is “perhaps an Israeli goal, unless other parties emerge and claim the responsibility for it, as then talks will take a different course”.
In response to a question by North-Press regarding Israel’s responsibility for the latest air strikes on military positions nearby the Syrian-Iraqi borders on Monday night in Albukamal area, an Israeli military source only said that “he doesn’t rule that out”.
While local media sources and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed on Monday that an unidentified war planes had targeted al-Heri area near Albukamal close to the Syrian-Iraqi borders.
The targeting has stricken locations under wide-scale control of the Iranian forces in the area, while the sources didn’t define human and material losses which affected the aforementioned areas.
On the 9th of September, “unidentified war-planes” targeted Iranian positions in the city of Albukamal on the west bank of the Euphrates River in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
