Turkish attacks target our people to change region’s demography – Syriac Military Council

The forces of the Syriac Military Council have been deployed in the last few days around the town of Tal Tamr and the villages of al-Khabour river in northwest Hasakah countryside, in conjunction with attacks on the area by the Turkish military and the Turkish affiliated Syrian armed opposition groups. In a previous statement, the Syriac Military Council announced that it had received control over the above-mentioned areas from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) after Turkish military attacks started on October 9, 2019.

Abjar Yaqoub, the spokesman of the Syriac Military Council said: “The deployment was in coordination with the SDF." He also stressed that the Syriac Council forces stationed in the front line of Tal Tamr, in order to protect the local people from terrorism, where they are subjected to by the Turkish army and its affiliated armed opposition groups.

 

The Syriac Military Council asked the SDF forces to take control over internal security for the areas where they were deployed, as well as to protect them militarily, as for the privacy of the majority of the Syriac-Assyrians population in the area.

 

Yakoub said: “The Turkish attacks in northeastern Syria since October 9, directly target our people, displace them from their safe areas, and changes the demography of the region".

 

It is noteworthy that the perimeter of Tal Tamr, which is inhabited by Syriacs and Assyrians, has been undergone heavy attack and shelling for days, by the Turkish army and its affiliated armed opposition groups.
