Ongoing clashes and bombardment in southern Idlib

The Syrian government forces with the support of the Russian forces managed to take control over the village of Mesherfeh southeast of Idlib, coinciding with intensive airstrikes by the Russian fighter jets and the Syrian helicopters on the rest of the de-escalation zones. Local sources told North-Press that the Syrian government forces have advanced after midnight hours to the village of Mesherfeh southeast of Idlib, and managed to take control after fierce clashes with the armed opposition groups, in addition to intensifying the aerial and ground bombardments.

The sources added that there were casualties from both sides in light of the continuing battles on the outskirts of Mesherfeh and Tal Khazna. The “Observatory 20”, operating in southern Idlib told North-Press that the operation room of the armed opposition group al-Fatah al-Mubeen, regained full control over the village of Mesherfeh at 9 am after fierce clashes with the Syrian government forces and their Russian ally which lasted for hours.

Mesherfeh is considered the first line of defense on the axes of contact in the region and has gained importance for its height and monitor over villages located in the west. According to Russian websites, fierce clashes carried out between members of the Syrian government forces and the militants of Ajnad al-Kavkaz and their allies of al-Nusra Front on the axis of Mesherfeh-Tal al-Khazzan in southeastern Idlib countryside, after artillery and a rocket-focused preface on the positions of Ajnad al-Kavkaz group.

In the same context, activists indicated the death and wounding of a number of the Syrian government forces after they were targeted by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham shelling on the axis of Kabenah in Mount al-Akrad, in the northeastern countryside of Latakia.

This comes at a time when Russian fighter-jets and helicopters targeted with dozens of airstrikes and barrel bombs the cities and towns south and east of Idlib. The bombardment targeted areas of Kafr Sajneh, Maarat Harmah, Hazarin, Kafr Nabl, Karsaa and the village of Sarj in eastern Maarat al-Numan countryside, and the village of Um al-Khalakhel, Mesherfeh, al-Tineh, al-Halba, Tal-Dam and Sahhal, east of Idlib.
