Unidentified aircraft shelled the Iranian-controlled Green Belt area in city of Albukamal, east of Deir ez-Zor governorate last night, in conjunction with the Israeli Defense Minister's threat to attack and drive Iran out of Syria.

Local social media websites loyal to the Syrian armed opposition groups stated that the shelling targeted ammunition depots belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards inside the Green Belt area in the city of Albukamal.

This targeting is the second of its kind in four days as unidentified aircraft bombed al-Hamdan airport, which is used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a base in Albukamal, east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, last Wednesday.

The targeting of the Green Belt comes at a time when the Israeli Defense Minister, Naftali Bennett said at Makor Rishon conference on Sunday: “It is no secret that Iran is trying to establish a ring of fire around our country, it is already based in Lebanon and is trying to establish in Syria, Gaza and more.” He added: "We need to move from containment to attack; if we are determined, we can take Iran's aggression forces out of Syria. They have nothing to look for on the borders of the State of Israel.”

"We tell Iran that Syria will become your Vietnam, if you stay there, you will bleed and we will act until you remove your aggression forces from Syria," Bennett added.

In the past period, the Israeli forces had carried out a wide range of airstrikes on sites in Syria, which they said that targeted “some militants and Iranian Revolutionary Guards elements and their allies,” accusing Iran of seeking to establish military positions on the Syrian territories in order to attack Israel.
