The de-escalation zones in Idlib are witnessing a relative calm, interspersed by missile and artillery shelling by the Syrian government forces on Idlib’s southern and southeastern countryside, as clashes were subsided, while the Syrian government forces continue to try to regain control over strategic points that were lost on Wednesday to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Idlib’s southeastern countryside .

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported calm prevailed on the fighting fronts, after repeated attempts by the Syrian government forces to regain control over the village of al-Katiba al_Mahjoura, near Umm al-Tina and its strategic hill, where it was confronted by the HTS militants.

The observatory also documented the killing of more than twenty members on both sides during the last 24 hours of the clashes, as part of the efforts of the Syrian government forces to recover the areas that were for the HTS.

The observatory monitored yesterday the shelling with surface-to-surface missiles by the Syrian forces on the town of Jarjanaz and its surroundings in Idlib’s southeastern countryside, coinciding with the flights of the Russian reconnaissance aircraft in the airspace of the region.

For its part Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has targeted the positions of Syrian government forces in Abu al-Dhuhor, al-Khafiya, al-Sukkariya, Tal Ezzo, al-Thahabiya, Hmeimat, and al-Barghithi in Idlib’s eastern countryside, with artillery and rockets.
