Russian military police conducts joint patrol with Turkish forces in Derbasiya, northeastern Syria

Derbasiya – North-Press Agency

On Wednesday, the Russian military police and Turkish forces conducted a joint military patrol in the border area of the town of Derbasiya and its countryside in northeastern Syria.

The joint patrol started from the village of Sherk, west of Derbasiya, and consisted of four armored vehicles from both forces, accompanied by two Russian helicopters.

The patrol roamed six villages in the western countryside of Derbasiya and the town of Abu Rasin (Dahr al-Arab, Qarman, Haji Oghli, Turba, Karkand, Berkafri). The Turkish armored vehicles then crossed from their border entry point towards Turkish territories, while Russian forces headed towards their base in Qamishli Airport in northeastern Syria.

The North-Press correspondent indicated that the Russian-Turkish joint patrol was to be conducted on Tuesday, but the latter did not show up as Russian forces waited for several hours near the village of Sherk, an issue that led Russian forces to conduct a unilateral patrol in the area.

Russian forces have conducted seven joint patrols with Turkish forces in the countryside of Derbasiya since the Russian-Turkish agreement on the 22nd of October 2019.
