Five coronavirus cases among Turkish military in Afrin

On Tuesday, medical sources from inside the military hospital in the city of Afrin, in the northern countryside of Aleppo, confirmed to North-Press that five Turkish soldiers stationed in Afrin were infected with coronavirus and were recently transferred to the Turkish interior.

 

The sources said that five out of eight suspected cases of coronavirus inside the military hospital tested positive for the virus.

 

The source pointed out that preventative measures in Afrin are limited to instructions on the necessity of prevention, protection, and personal hygiene, with no quarantine imposed on the area.

 

The media outlet The New Arab said that on Monday evening, Turkish military vehicles transported eight Turkish soldiers from the city of Afrin to Turkish territory, on suspicion of being infected with the new coronavirus

 

The website pointed out that those suspected of having coronavirus are from the “commandos” of the Turkish military, noting that they were transferred to Afrin recently.

 

On Sunday, the Minister of Health in the Syrian Interim Government announced that northwestern Syria, which is under the control of armed opposition groups, was free of any coronavirus infections.
