On Saturday night, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with the support of the Global Coalition forces, captured a number of ISIS militants who were in possession of military equipment during an operation carried out in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
A military source told North-Press that the SDF’s Special Forces carried out a security operation against ISIS lairs in the al-Basirah area east of Deir ez-Zor.
The source added, “The operation resulted in the capture of a number of ISIS militants, while two militants with Iraqi citizenship blew themselves up before being captured.”
According to the source, the Special Forces found explosive belts, weapons, and military equipment in the possession of the captured militants, who were using them to carry out offensive operations in the area.
ISIS cells are active in the areas of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, particularly after the Turkish invasion of areas in North and East Syria in October last year, following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw his country's forces from Syria.
Recently, the SDF, supported by the Global Coalition, has intensified its military and security operations against ISIS leaders and fighters that are deployed across large networks in the region. The SDF's counterterrorism forces arrested two ISIS militants during two separate operations in the city of Raqqa on Saturday evening.
