On Thursday, Russian Military Police conducted a patrol consisting of nine armored vehicles in the countryside of Derik in the far northeast of Syria, and headed to the area adjacent to the Syrian-Turkish border east of the city of Qamishli.

The patrol began from Qasr Deeb village about 10 km north of Derik, towards the Alian region east of Qamishli, passing through the villages bordering Turkey.

On Wednesday, Russian armored vehicles settled in the village of Qasr Deeb, while news spread that the Russian forces had established a military base in the village, which was denied by an informed local source.

A security source told North-Press that a U.S. military patrol arrived in Derik on Thursday in conjunction with the launch of the Russian patrol on the Syrian-Turkish border.

On Wednesday, Russian MPs conducted a similar patrol on the border towards the Semalka border crossing with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. U.S. forces conducted a patrol in the same area.

Local sources from the village of Zahiria adjacent to the Turkish border told North-Press that on Wednesday, a Russian patrol consisting of three armored vehicles and two helicopters passed their village, heading to the Semalka border crossing, before returning on the same road.

North-Press sources reported that another U.S. patrol left the same area an hour after Russian armored vehicles passed towards the Semalka border crossing and returned to the village of Qasr Deeb.
