Three killed in car bomb explosion in Syria’s Turkish-held northeastern Sere Kaniye
SEREKANIYE, Syria (North Press) – At least three civilians were killed on Saturday in a car bombing in Syria's northeastern town of Sere Kaniye, which was seized by Turkey last October, local sources said.
Local sources told North Press that a car bomb exploded at the town center in front of a military headquarters belonging to an armed group from the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition.
The military headquarters, belonging to the Ahrar Al-Sharqiya group, was a house the group confiscated from a resident of the town, the local source added.
Three civilians, including a child, lost their lives and several others were injured. The explosion, which hit a main street in the town, caused damage to a series of buildings.
The wounded were immediately transferred to the main hospital of the town. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
In October, the Turkish army and their affiliated Syrian rebel groups known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), launched a military operation and pushed the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from the border towns of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad, leading to the deaths of about 500 civilians and the displacement of about 300,000 people.
There have been several explosions in both towns since October as the areas occupied by Turkey suffer from security chaos due to the conflicts among several armed groups which rule the occupied areas.
In December, five civilians, including children, were killed in a car bomb explosion in Tal Halaf. Moreover, there were 30 casualties from a car bomb explosion in November, including women and children.
