Security forces arrest activist in as-Suwayda, southern Syria

AS-SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government security forces arrested Raed al-Khatib, a civil activist, on Tuesday after he took part in a protest which demanded the departure of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

 

A witness who preferred to remain anonymous told North Press that a black car “known to belong to the political security forces” with seven men inside stopped and took al-Khatib from the city center and took him to an unknown place.

 

Al-Khatib is known as a civil activist and took part in the protests that the city of as-Suwayda has been witnessing for three days demanding the departure of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

 

For the third day in a row, the city of as-Suwayda is witnessing protests against the deteriorating living situation and demanding the departure of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

 

“We lost hope for the ruling authority. We never trust it and we demand it go away,” one of the protestors had said earlier to North Press.
