HAMA, Syria (North Press) -Syrian warplanes bombed Hama countryside after an attack by Islamic State (ISIS) cells on a government forces site.
Syrian aircraft bombarded several locations believed to be ISIS cells in the desert of Hama after an attack by ISIS members on a Syrian government forces site in Aqirbat in Hama countryside on Thursday.
The aerial bombardment coincided with a campaign in Aqirbat and Ruwaida by government forces in search of ISIS’ cells, according to Syrian government sources.
Clashes took place between government forces and ISIS fighters in Aqirbat area in the far eastern countryside of Hama on Wednesday.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 21 ISIS fighters were killed in the clashes.
The Syrian government holds large parts of Hama province, and all of the provincial capital. ISIS and other rebels hold pockets of territory in the northeast and south.
ISIS’ loss of Hama province came after they were forced in 2017 to withdraw from their last positions in Aleppo province further north.
