Anti-government protests Renewed in Syria’s As-Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – After stopping for two days, Anti-government demonstrations in the city of Suwayda renewed for the fifth time, on Saturday,  calling for the release of detainees and the departure of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Demonstrators of all communities, started from sayr roundabout in the city centre of Suwayda to continue towards the main road  then towards Mashnaqa roundabout,  to the south, cutting the traffic movement and stop at the governorate building.

The protesters shouted slogans against the Syrian government, rejecting the Iranian presence in Syria, and demanding a democratic civil state.

They emphasized the peacefulness of the protests, and the maintenance of the Syrian people’s unity from Afrin in northern Syria to Khirbet Ghazala in the south, insisting on the continuation of the protests until their demands are met.

The protestors issued a statement, on Saturday, asking the sheikhs and the governorate leaders not to oppose  people's demands, and not to assist the Syrian government against locals, “because the movement is peaceful and calls for dignity and the departure of tyrants.”

Last Wednesday, por-government employees and students marched in the city of Suwayda, in response to the protests, where the branch secretary of Baath Party in Suwayda Fawzat Shukair, attacked those who demand the downfall of the Syrian president, describing them as mobs and unpatriotic.

Local sources told North Press that Suwayda is witnessing security tension and fear of security forces’ preparations that might lead to possible arrests of protesters after tracking them through the cameras in front of the governorate building, and other cameras that were set yesterday night at the crossroads and inside the roundabouts.
