Syrian government forces target Turkish observation post in Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Military sources said Syrian government artillery targeted the Turkish observation post in Idlib on Monday, amid the return of the military and reconnaissance aircraft to the sky of the region after their absence for two consecutive days.

There was no information about casualties among the Turkish forces, according to the same sources.

The targeting comes after about a month and a half for similar attacks in which government forces managed to destroy two military bulldozers of the Turkish army on the outskirts of the town of Efes, using two Kornet missiles, which injured a Turkish soldier.

Meanwhile, a Turkish reconnaissance drone flew over Zawiya Mountain, while the western countryside of Idlib, Ghab Plain, and Latakia countryside witnessed the flight of a Russian reconnaissance drone.

The sources pointed out that the Syrian government forces stationed in Maarat al-Numan, south of Idlib, bombed the villages of Rweiha, Benin, and Shanan on Monday with artillery and missile shells.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated that after midnight Sunday – Monday, Syrian government forces were killed and wounded in Jarad, south of Idlib, after they were targeted by armed groups with rockets.

Violent clashes took place in Fetera, south of Idlib, after Syrian forces’ attempt to infiltrate an armed group’s location, coinciding with mutual shelling between the two parties.

A Turkish convoy, comprising of about 30 vehicles, entered Kafr Lossin border crossing with the Iskenderun region to the north of Idlib. The convoy headed towards the Turkish observation points deployed within the de-escalation areas.

Turkish convoys continue to enter the Idlib countryside, where the number of Turkish vehicles that have entered so far has reached 4,295 since the ceasefire began in early March, in addition to thousands of soldiers, according to SOHR.
