Two Iraqi refugees killed by riots in Hawl camp

HAWL, Syria(North Press) – Two Iraqi refugees were killed as a result of the riots in Hawl camp, a source from the camp administration told North Press on Tuesday.

Hawl Camp, which is run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria in the southeastern countryside of Hasakah, is witnessing an escalation of violence organized by the families of the members and leaders of the Islamic State (ISIS) present in the camp.

The source said that "riots took place today, Tuesday, inside the camp, organized by the families of ISIS, which resulted in the killing of two Iraqi refugees and wounding of several others from the camp."

The source, who preferred not to be named, added "the perpetrators of the riots among the ISIS families threw stones at the refugees, chanting ISIS slogans."

The camp witnessed the killing of a refugee in the fourth sector, dedicated to Iraqi refugees, on the 10th of June.

Hawl camp includes the largest number of women, children and members of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, numbering about 11,000 people, according to the camp administration. The total number of its residents reaches over 65,000 people, distributed in 13,000 tents.
