Syrian Democratic Forces capture ISIS militant in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria – (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested an Islamic State (ISIS) militant during an operation against ISIS cells in Deir ez-Zor countryside.

An informed military source told North Press the US-led Global Coalition forces and the SDF's special forces carried out a security operation on Saturday evening, during which they managed to capture a militant allegedly connected to ISIS sleeper cells in the area.

The SDF then transferred him to another location for interrogation due to his possible association with ISIS activity which threatens the safety and security of the residents of northeastern Syria, according to the source.

ISIS cells are operating in the rural areas of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, especially after the Turkish invasion of northeastern Syria in October last year and the decision of US President Donald Trump to withdraw US forces from Syria.

US-led Global Coalition forces and the SDF have intensified their operations against the leaders and militants of ISIS cells deployed in the region.

The SDF launched a large-scale security operation known as "Deterrence of Terrorism" in June this year in order to pursue ISIS cells in Hasakah and the Deir ez-Zor countryside, adjacent to the Iraq-Syria border.
