Number of casualties from VBIED explosion in Syria’s Azaz increases
AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – The number of casualties from a VBIED explosion in the Syrian city of Azaz on Sunday has increased to seven dead and about 70 injuries.
Local sources told North Press that the initial casualty toll was five dead and about 70 injuries, though the dead later reached seven. The number of injuries included women and children, some of which were seriously injured.
He added that the explosion was due to a VBIED, which was coming from the northern Syrian city of Afrin and was loaded with firewood as camouflage.
The explosion took place near Bab Salama border crossing with Turkey, where a police center of the opposition groups is stationed.
No party claimed responsibility for the explosion, but residents blamed the Syrian government, while Afrin is under the control of the Turkish-backed opposition group known as the Syrian National Army.
On June 26, the Islamic State took responsibility for murdering a real estate official in Bab city, northeast of Aleppo.
