BAB, Syria (North Press) – Clashes took place between Turkish-affiliated opposition groups belonging to the opposition’s Syrian National Army (also known as the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army) and a military police a family during an attempted arrest by the former.
The clashes took place in Bab city after opposition groups tried to raid a house belonging to the al-Waki family, and carry out an arrest on a wanted individual.
A North Press source in Bab city confirmed that "a military convoy belonging to the Syrian National Army supported the military police in their clashes against [the family].”
The source added that "after attacking the house of a policeman from [the al-Waki family], the groups fired on the house, injuring a civilian policeman and arresting his son.”
"Clashes caused a state of fear and panic for the neighborhood and the policeman's family, whose house was suddenly attacked without a warrant.”
The source stressed that "the policeman was released a while ago after being detained for unknown reasons, but they resumed his detention without warning."
Mediations are being held demanding the stoppage of the ongoing clashes in fear of their escalation.
Bab city, located east of Aleppo, was captured by Turkish-backed forces in the so-called “Operation Euphrates Shield” in 2017. Since this time, the city and its surrounding areas have witnessed security chaos, including explosions and assassinations, with the Turkish-backed groups unable to control it.
