Explosion hits Syria’s northern Kurdish town of Kobani,, casualties reported

KOBANI, Syria (North press) – At least one civilian was killed and two injured in a land mine explosion in the countryside of Syria’s northern Kurdish majority town of Kobani, local sources said on Wednesday.

The sources told North Press that the mine exploded in the village of Zour Maghar in the western countryside Kobani while the villagers were working in their pistachio fields.

“Sheikh Hindi, 40, was killed while Mahmoud Bouzan, 38, and Imad Khalil, 35, were heavily injured,” said Ahmad Mukhtar, a relative of the inured civilians.

The injured civilians then were transferred to Al-Amal Hospital in Kobani, he said.

In April, a farmer was also heavily injured in a land mine explosion while he was plowing his field in the village of Buban, 15 km west to Kobani.

In March, a 10-year-old boy lost his life, and his father was injured by a landmine explosion in the countryside of Kobani.

Locals said that these mines and explosive devices are remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) group which attacked the region in 2014 and also remnants of the Turkish-backed militias that attacked the region in October.
