The psychological support team of the Kurdish Red Crescent in northern Aleppo camps that shelter Afrin’s displaced people is conducting a series of recreational and awareness activities for women to help them in the psychological side, due to the difficult situation they suffer in those camps.
The event was held on Saturday evening in “Sardam” IDP camp with several entertainment and awareness activities that commensurate with the ages of the participants, and in the presence of dozens of IDP women.
The event also included a theatrical performance, represented by members of the psychological support team; the play dealt with the phenomenon of women’s frequent visits to magicians and witches in order to solve their problems.
Regarding the purpose of the event, the director of the psychological support team Shervin Omar, told North-Press that because “women always bear the biggest brunt in wars, we did this event to try to get them out of the daily routine in the camp”.
Omar pointed out that the activities were commensurate with the age of the participants in order to raise their morale, and reduce the consequences of displacement on women’s psyche.
Regarding the idea of the performed play, Omar added: “Through all the activities we present, whether for children or women, we try every time to highlight a phenomenon suffered by the society”.
Omar said: “This time we highlighted the magicians who deceive women under the cover of religion, and alert them to the reality of the magicians’ personality”, adding that “activities will continue in the five IDP camps in the areas of Aleppo’s northern countryside”.
It is noteworthy that tens of thousands of people of Afrin region were displaced from their areas, due to the military operation of the Turkish army and its affiliated armed opposition groups early last year, which led to the control of these forces over the city of Afrin and most of its countryside.
