Colorful bags of chips for the US-Turkish ground patrol?
Tal Abyad – North-Press Agency
While local and international media outlets were busy with covering the first joint on-ground patrol on the Syrian borders, pursuant to the Safe Zone agreement, a child selling bags of chips was seen near the military vehicles.
According to a footage taken by North-Press reporter, the little child did not expect this road to become so busy and popular, and for sure, he didn’t expect to see military vehicles as such.
While the US soldier tries in vain to disturb the child as asking him to stay away from the vehicle, to be met with a smile by the child, either because of language of the soldier which sounded strange to the child, or because of the facial features that don’t resemble those of the village’s men.
The little child continued staring at the armored vehicles there, an American soldier elsewhere, a Turkish soldier on the other side, and media reporters going back and forth, until he was fed up with this road, which he knows nothing about its importance, as leaving it to the joint patrols that implement the “Safe Zone” agreement.
The US-Turkish troops conducted the first joint on the ground patrol in coordination with Tal Abyad Military Council, which was handed the military points by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), that the latter had earlier withdrawn along with their heavy weapons.
Six Turkish armored vehicles entered the Syrian territories after the US four armored vehicles and two minesweepers have headed towards the Turkish territories to bring the machineries through a border wall, at the village of Hashisha, some 30km east of Tal Abyad, where the SDF had already filled its last trenches, two days ago.
The patrol headed through the border road between Sere-Kaniye (Ras Al-Ain) and Gre Spi (Tel Abyad) towards the village of Guilan 35 km east of Tel Abyad, to check the trenches of which the SDF had all filled, amid intensive flights by the US and Turkish helicopters.
The Turkish convoy which participated in the patrol, visited 6 points, from which the SDF had already withdrawn to ensure the implementation of the security mechanism: Hashisha, Guilan, Mushrifah al-Abbad, Al-Ruwaiya and Al-Mestriha.
The Turkish military convoy returned through the border wall into Turkish territories this afternoon, while no information was known regarding the date of the upcoming joint patrol.
