The residents of the city of Aleppo suffer an almost daily water crisis while high temperatures caused an increase in the consumption of water.

In addition to the difficulties of securing water by the water tankers and the high wages, the decision of Aleppo Water Supply and Sewage Authority (WSSA) has complicated the matter much further.

North-Press reported the cutting of water supply from several neighborhoods of Masaken al-Sabeel, Ashrafieh, Sheikh Maqsoud, Zabadieh, Bustan al-Qasr, al-Haidariya, al-Leramon, al-Daeiry Alshamali, al-Daeiry Aljanobi, Tishreen Street, Tariq Bin Ziyad, and behind al-Rahman Mosque inside the city and some parts of the countryside, since the beginning of September.

The reason for water interruption

The WSSA explained that the reason for cutting off the water is to maintain the third traction channel, starting from the canal in al-Khafsa and extending to the city of Aleppo, which caused cutting off the water supply from some neighborhoods for about 48 hours.

Difficulties in securing water

Samer Dalati a university student from the neighborhood of Bustan al-Qasr said that water was poorly reaching their house, and now it has been cut off under the pretext of maintaining the main water lines.

According to Dalati cutting water caused a problem, he said: “We cannot provide drinking water, for two reasons first because the difficulty of obtaining a water tanker and second because it is very expensive, where the price per water barrel is about 500 Syrian pounds”.

Poor pumping

Abdullah Saleh, a resident of al-Haidariya neighborhood, told North-Press that water is poorly supplied to the neighborhood, so they have to buy water from the tankers at varying prices according to the tanker’s owner mood.

He added that “water supply authority had previously dug hundreds of wells in the city when it was besieged, wondering why they aren’t operating the wells, and if they didn’t operate them now, so when”?

The city of Aleppo suffers a severe crisis in several sectors such as cutting off the electricity and water supplies, in addition to the high cost of the domestic gas cylinders, which caused resentment among the people.
