Coronavirus outbreak in northeast Syria: 12 cases confirmed, bringing total to 66
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Health Authority of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria announced 12 coronavirus cases confirmed in the region despite strict measures.
Jiwan Mustafa, head of Health Authority, said in a statement that "12 new coronavirus cases were confirmed on Friday in northeast Syria, bringing the total number to 66."
Mustafa said that the 12 cases were in the Jazira region, including eight in Qamishli, one in Tel Kochar,and three cases in Raqqa.
He further explained that the cases included four women and eight men.
The Health Authority had denied the existence of any coronavirus cases in al-Hol camp.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic last week, one person died in Ahras village in northern Aleppo countryside.
One case has recovered in the country’s northeastern Qamishli city.
The Autonomous Administration imposed a total lockdown starting on Thursday in the region it controls as a measure to stop the spread of the pandemic.
