Coronavirus outbreak in northeast Syria: 6 cases confirmed in Hassakeh
HASSAKEH, Syria (North Press) – Health authority of the Kurdish-led autonomous administration in northeast Syria on Saturday announced six coronavirus cases in the country’s northeastern city of Hassakeh.
The authority added they quarantined 25 others who were suspected to be infected.
“The infected people, who are from the neighborhoods of Klassah, Nasrah and Salihiya, are subjected to home quarantine, as their health conditions are stable, and they are heading towards recovery," Siham Mulla Ali, spokesperson for the Health Directorate in Hasakah, told North Press.
“Those quarantined people will have PCR tests as well,” she added.
Last week, the local authorities announced 17 coronavirus cases in the region.
This brings the total number of known COVID-19 cases to 31. So far, only one person has died from the virus in northeast Syria.
Local authorities last week announced new measures to prevent the potential spread of the virus, including closing border crossings, limiting travel, and prohibiting public gatherings such as weddings and other ceremonies.
