After recording infections, Semalka crossing imposes new precautionary measures

DERIK, Syria(North Press) – In cooperation with Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the management of Semalka border crossing in Derik intensified precautionary measures after the emergence of coronavirus in the cities of Qamishli and Hasakah. Moreover, the management imposed new measures on the continued movement of goods in the crossing.

The administrator of customs in Semalka border crossing Haval Khalil told North Press that they intensified the precautionary measures imposed on  trading, forced drivers who come from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to wear masks and gloves, and prevented them from coming in touch with others or forming groups in the crossing.  

He added that "all trucks that enter the crossing are  completely sterilized."

A source from the crossing management said that movement in the crossing is completely stopped and no one is allowed to come to North and East Syria, while those who bear European nationalities and residencies are allowed to leave provided they carry a copy of a flight ticket and obtain Kurdistan region's approval.

He pointed out to that the entry of a funeral of someone who died of coronavirus  to northeastern Syria is forbidden.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced on Friday the complete closure of all crossings, and that any humanitarian case that enters to its  areas will be sent to a 14-day quarantine.
