Demonstration in Aleppo condemns Turkish operation against regions in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region

ALEPPO, Syria – (North Press) – Hundreds of residents in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh in the city of Aleppo protested on Monday to denounce the Turkish shelling on Makhmur camp in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and mount Sinjar, in northern Iraq.

The demonstrators shouted slogans against the Turkish government because of what they described as repeated attacks committed against the Kurds in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Hisham Ahmed, co-chair of the Yazidi House in Aleppo told North Press, "Turkey aims at restoring the glories of the Ottoman ancestors and follow the path of the Turans by its attack on Makhmur camp and the Sinjar Mountain (Shangal)."

"Sinjar Mountain (Shangal) was attacked by the Islamic State (ISIS), which was receiving support from Turkey, then Turkey attacked the Afrin region with the help of mercenaries after ISIS was defeated. Now it has returned to carry out the operation by itself."

Turkey launched waves of airstrikes on areas of Sinjar Mountain and Makhmur town in Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq at Sunday's night. The airstrikes shook mount Sinjar, an area that is home to the Yazidi minority and where ISIS carried out a genocide against Yazidis in 2014.

The protesters denounced the stance of the international community and the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, for what they considered silence towards the massacres and violations committed by Turkey against the Kurds and the Yazidis through bombing the mount Sinjar and Makhmur camp.

Makhmour refugee camp in the Kurdistan region of Iraq was subjected to Turkish airstrikes at Sunday's night, as well as areas of Shangal / Sinjar in northern Iraq, and locals reported that the Sardasht hospital in Sinjar was subjected to aerial bombardment, under the Turkish Military Operation Claw-Eagle.
