Turkish-backed Syrian opposition Salvation Government sells bread in Turkish currency

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The Salvation Government, affiliated to Turkish-backed Hayat Tahrir Asham (HTS) armed group, controlling Idlib in northwestern Syria, issued a circular on Sunday imposing the sale of bread in Turkish lira, a statement said.

The statement added that trading of all other goods and commodities will turn into Turkish currency next week.

"The Salvation Government sets 2 Turkish liras  for a 10-loaf-850-gm-package of high-quality bread, 1.5 Turkish liras for normal quality bread," the statement reads.

In few days all market trade will change into Turkish lira after supplying the market with large sums of Turkish currency."

The statement added the Salvation Government to supply the markets with large screens for displaying the prices in the Turkish currency.

Watad Company  which imports fuel in the HTS-held areas began selling all its products in Turkish lira, such as a litre of imported gasoline and diesel for 3.7 TL.

According to the company, the fuel will be sold in Turkish lira or its value in Syrian pounds.

The Salvation Government announced earlier that it started to pay its employees' salaries in Turkish lira.

Few weeks ago, large sums of Turkish currency notes and coins were delivered the markets of the Turkish-backed armed opposition groups areas in the northern countryside of Aleppo  and also to HTS-held areas in Idlib.
