Fire breaks out near Russian base north of Syria’s Hasakah

TAL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Fire broke out on Tuesday among crops in the village of al-Dardara north of the town of Tal Tamr in the countryside of Hasakah.

Quoting a security source in the town, a North Press reporter said that fire broke out in agricultural fields in the vicinity of the Russian base at the al-Mabaqer station, north of the town of Tal Tamr which called the fire brigade in the municipality of Tal Tamr to intervene and put it out, without any movement from the Russian forces.

“The armed opposition groups stationed in the villages of al-Qasimiyah and al-Arishah set the fire at around 19:45,” the source said.

The reporter pointed out that the fire brigade in People’s Municipality of Tal Tamr rushed to reach the place of fire and put it out as the fire reached the wall of the base, without Russian forces interfering or showing any reaction towards the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, Turkish-backed opposition groups set fire to crops in al-Arishah village which is under their control, causing acres of farmland to be destroyed without anyone being able to extinguish it.

The fire brigade also recorded three other fires in the villages of Khadrawi, Um Shawali and Tal Amir near the town of Zarkan, which caused the burning of acres planted with wheat and barley.

The Russian forces are stationed at the al-Mabaqer plant after the withdrawal of the US forces from the area in October 2019.

The area of Tal Tamr has witnessed fires in agricultural lands since the beginning of the agricultural season of this year, and the local population accuses the Turkish army and its armed opposition groups of setting fire to crops, especially in the villages under their control which witness daily outbreaks of crop fires.
