On Wednesday the administration of the Semalka border crossing with Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced that residents of North and East Syria who entered the region for humanitarian or medical reasons are allowed to return to their area.

On Wednesday, the Facebook official account of the crossing published a post stating that from the 30th of May, individuals from North and East Syria could return from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG).

Regarding the measures that the crossing administration might take with the arrivals, Baz Ahmed, Director of Crossing Affairs, said in a call with North-Press that all arrivals will be examined without being forced to quarantine, except for cases that are suspected to be infected with the coronavirus.

In early March, the Autonomous Administration closed the crossing to travelers as a precautionary measure to prevent outbreak of the new coronavirus in the region.

The Semalka crossing is one of the most important crossings with northeastern Syria, as it is used for trades and the transport of patients to the KRG for treatment, as well as civil visits between the two sides.
