Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Service Community in Egypt Abdulfattah Hamza estimated the number of coronavirus cases among Syrians residing at 12.
In an interview with North-Press, Abdulfattah Hamza said that the number is likely to increase with the presence of unidentified cases.
Hamza, who is in charge of a community that provides support services to Syrians affected by the pandemic and its accompanying precautionary measures, revealed that such cases include one in Alexandria in the country’s north, another in Tanta to the west of Cairo, and other cases in the Egyptian capital. There are two recorded deaths from the virus.
He pointed out that Syrians do not face any problems in receiving medical services in Egypt, and that they are receiving equal treatment in terms of the procedures for coronavirus in hospitals.
No statistics
There is no official statistic for the number of people infected with the virus from foreign communities residing in Egypt, whether Syrian or others; there is a need to announce the total infections, recoveries, and deaths, as well as geographical distributions of infections in some statistics.
60-year-old Syrian Amira Muhammad Marei recovered in Egypt after contracting coronavirus (COVID-19), as demonstrated in a widely circulated video published by the Egyptian Ministry of Health showing her speaking to medical crews as she is discharged from the hospital.
Marei was not the only one infected with coronavirus among the Syrian community in Egypt. She came into contact with infected people, and those who had contact with other infected persons underwent medical examination in anticipation of their infection. Moreover, some Syrians have died from the virus.
Syrian activist Hisham al-Madani announced the death Muhammad Saeed al-Abd due to coronavirus. Al-Abd is from Moadamiyat al-Sham, and has been living in the Egyptian capital Cairo for years.
Syrian politician and Cairo resident Adel al-Halawani revealed in previous statements to North-Press the existence of two coronavirus infections among Syrians, one case in the capital recorded on the 6th of October and another in a city to the east.
Al-Halawani, who is involved in social and humanitarian voluntary service activities with Syrian community, believes that "the number of infected is small compared to the total number of Syrians present in Egypt, both documented and undocumented," he said.
A few days ago, a 49-year-old Syrian doctor working in an Egyptian hospital, died from coronavirus a week after he was transferred to the Isolation Hospital in al-Nujila in Marsa Matrouh governorate on the southern Egyptian border.
The growing spread of the coronavirus pandemic in Egypt raises widespread concerns, especially since the infection rates are increasing daily, exceeding 700 cases this week. The government is making moves to return to normal life after mid-June, which reinforced fears associated with the growing spread of the virus, despite the government's talk about expanding preventative measures and an integrated plan for coexistence.
