Euphrates Shield groups accused of burning agricultural fields in Kobani

Kobani – Fatah Issa – North-press agency

On Sunday, the joint head of the municipality of al-Qenaya in the Kobani countryside, Ali Maho, accused   Euphrates Shield groups (armed opposition groups backed by Turkey) of setting fires in agricultural lands controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces.

On Sunday afternoon, the fire devoured 25 hectares of land planted with barley in the village of Sheikh al-Fawqani, which is located 32 km west of Kobani, firing incendiary rounds at agricultural land.

Maho told North-Press that the cause of the fires in the village of Shoyokh Fawqani was the firing of incendiary bullets on agricultural lands, from militants hiding among the trees inside Euphrates Shield areas on the western side of the Euphrates River.

On Sunday evening, Maho mentioned that three mortar shells landed in the village of Baoarz inside agricultural lands planted with wheat, but that those lands were not burned as a result of moisture.

Over the past two days, the town of Sirin, south of Kobani, witnessed the outbreak of three fires in barley fields, which caused the burning of about five  hectares.
