On Sunday, Arab, Kurdish, and Assyrian dignitaries and political figures in the areas of Jazira and Deir ez-Zor, northeastern Syria, demanded that the Autonomous Administration and Syrian government engage in a “serious dialogue,” and expressed their rejection of all "occupations" of Syrian land.
A meeting was held with notable elders and dignitaries from the tribes of Northern and Eastern Syria, within the Russian military barracks in the al-Mabaqer station, north of the town of Tal Tamr (40 km north of Hasakah city), to discuss the political and military situation in the region in particular and Syria in general.
Hakam Khalo, a notable elder from northeastern Syria, said during a speech that "the continuation of the Syrian crisis is a product of the Syrian regime's methodology…if the Syrian regime sticks to these exclusionary approaches, we will move towards partition, and this matter serves the dominant countries in the region.”
Khalo called for "all parties in the region to join forces to resist the Turkish occupation and its supporters,” and asked people to “stand up against the colonial projects that are being presented in the region with the support of some mercenaries."
In turn, a member of the Military Relations Office of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Chekdar Afrin, said that "several recent meetings were held between them, the Syrian government, and Russian and American forces to join efforts and build a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria,” confirming that they are "against the division of Syria, despite Turkey's attempts to push thigns in this direction."
Tribal elders wondered about Turkey's aim in digging trenches along the frontlines in the area, in addition to the continued bombing and the role of Russian forces in the region.
They also expressed their support for the Syrian dialogue and united efforts to "end the crisis in Syria, away from intolerance and exclusion, and to form a new constitution that protects all the rights of the components of the Syrian people."
A final statement issued by the meeting said, "The solution to the Syrian crisis can only take place with Syrian-Syrian agreement, reject all occupations of Syrian land , and recognize the legitimacy of the SDF in defense and liberation.
