The Idlib Health Directorate of the Syrian Salvation Government, supported by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), finished the setup of two quarantine centers for those infected with coronavirus in Idlib governorate and other areas under the control of armed opposition groups.
This preparation comes as a precautionary step by the directorate in anticipation of the arrival of the epidemic in the region.
Doctor Abdulhakim Ramadan, coordinator of public health in the Idlib Health Directorate, told North-Press that two quarantine centers were equipped in Idlib governorate. The first in the city of Idlib consists of 13 rooms and 30 beds, while the second in the city of Kafr Tekharim, northwest of the city Idlib, includes 15 rooms and 40 beds.
He added that the quarantine centers that have been established are reserved for light and medium cases. 80% of those infected with coronavirus experience light to moderate symptoms and do not need intensive care; they can utilize these centers.
“As for the advanced and critical cases that require intensive care, they will be transferred to the Kafr Tekharim center, which contains an intensive care unit with eight intensive care beds and a ventilator," Dr. Ramadan said.
Ramadan pointed out that there were no cases of coronavirus in the northwestern Syria so far, and that the results of laboratory tests were all negative.
Minister of Health of the Syrian Interim Government Maram al-Sheikh posted on his Twitter page that as of May 5th, 332 samples of suspected coronavirus cases were examined and tested, their results were all negative, and that the northwestern regions are all free from the virus.
Local sources from the city of Afrin, northwest of Aleppo, confirmed to North-Press on that on May 5th, five Turkish soldiers and four civilians were infected with coronavirus. The soldiers were transferred to Turkish territory while civilians were placed in the city’s quarantine center.
