The Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria is working to open a new camp in eastern Hasakah for displaced Syrians due to the military operation launched by Turkey targeting the area between the cities of Serekaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad on the Syrian-Turkish borders in October last year.

Earlier this year, the Autonomous Administration began to prepare a new camp project implemented by a private company near the eastern entrance to the city of Hasakah, next to lands previously allocated for the construction of a new industrial zone.

The company is currently working on building bathrooms and kitchens, as well as constructing roads within the area designated for the camp. It is scheduled to be fully equipped by the beginning of next June, according to an official source in the Autonomous Administration.

The source told North-Press that this camp is a continuation of Washokani camp near the town of Twaina, 12 km west of Hasakah, to receive IDPs from Serekaniye and Tel Abyad as a result of attacks by Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups.

The source pointed out that the goal of establishing the camp is to empty the schools that were filled with IDPs, something which halted education after most of the schools in Hasakah turned into shelters for thousands of IDPs.

He added: "The camp may receive approximately 3,000 families within prefabricated housing (caravans), and certainly the services will be much better in terms of receiving aid from international humanitarian organizations."

According to information obtained by North-Press, the operating company started construction of the camp four months ago, and it plans to allocate prefabricated houses with a length of 8 meters and a width of 3.5 meters per family, where a large part of the kitchens, bathrooms, and paving roads have been implemented.

At the beginning of November last year, the Autonomous Administration opened the Washokani camp, and more than 11,000 displaced people have been transferred to it so far, according to the camp administration. Meanwhile, thousands of IDPs were distributed in schools in Hasakah and other camps in the countryside of Raqqa.
