Idlib – North-Press Agency
Teachers at the Faculty of Science at the University of Idlib, which is affiliated with the "Salvation Government" working in the areas controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), presented a letter to the dean of the faculty on Wednesday announcing the suspension of all theoretical and practical lectures, as their salaries have not been paid.
26 teachers from all departments of the Faculty of Science including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology signed the letter and presented it to the dean of the faculty.
North Press learned from sources familiar with the educational process in Idlib that the university suffers from a large financial deficit, as its employees have not received their salaries for 3 months.
This came after the support that the university was receiving from the "Syrian Interim Government" which is affiliated with the opposition Syrian National Coalition, after HTS took control of the university.
The university, which enrolled 15,000 students, has seen its numbers decline after the latest military operation launched by Syrian government forces on the countryside of Idlib, and its students started the second semester of the academic year at the beginning of this month.
