Local sources in Afrin city, west of Aleppo, revealed to North-Press that a number of Turkish soldiers and local civilians are infected with coronavirus. The soldiers have been transferred to Turkish territory, while civilians have been placed in the city's quarantine center.

"According to the military hospital in the city, there are ten cases, six of which are Turkish soldiers and four of which are Syrian civilians," said a source which preferred to remain anonymous.

"Turkish soldiers have been sent to Turkey, while the infected civilians who were in contact with those soldiers have been placed in the quarantine center in Afrin," the sources confirmed.

On social media sites, a number of activists and media workers in northern Syria expressed their shock and fear regarding this matter, because the creep of the virus to northern Syria would be a medical and human disaster due to the poor health infrastructure.
In his Facebook post, one of the activists said: "To my friends and parents in the liberated north, be ready and prepare yourselves for the battle of coronavirus, because it is knocking on our doors. Some Turkish soldiers [suspected of having the virus] have been detected in Afrin city. Peace for everyone."
