Last Saturday, security forces in al-Hol camp handed 16-year-old Yazidi girl Ronia Faisal Miskin over to the Yazidi House in Hasakah, in northeastern Syria, in preparation for her journey to the Yazidi Council in Shengal (Sinjar), Iraq.

Suleiman Hamo, a member of the Yazidi House in al-Jazira region, told North-Press that the day before yesterday, security forces in al-Hol camp handed the girl over to the Office of Affairs and Communication at the Yazidi House, which in turn communicated with the girl's family.

He added that later, the girl is set to be handed over to the Yazidi Council in Shengal (Sinjar) in Iraq, which is authorized to return her to her family.

Hamo attributed the reason for Ronia’s delay in revealing her identity to the responsible authorities in al-Hol camp to her fear that her relatives would not receive her because she had lived in ISIS-controlled areas – something ISIS operatives had warned her of.

He said that the majority of the liberated girls and women were in the same situation, because ISIS wished to scare the kidnapped away from returning to their families or surrendering to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Ronia refused to meet with North-Press or talk about what happened to her and the events she experienced, as she now lives with a family in the village of Antariya, north of Hasakah.

Ronia is waiting for the Semalka border crossing, closed due to precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus, to be reopened so that she can return to her family.

Sherine Khalil Qasim, the housewife who currently hosts Ronia, said that the terrorist group ISIS killed large numbers of Yazidis in the village of Solagh in Shengal in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in 2014, explaining that Ronia was kidnapped with her mother and two younger sisters, in addition to two of her brothers.

On March 29 last year, security forces in al-Hol camp handed the 17-year-old Yazidi girl Laila Murad Eido over to the Yazidi House in al-Jazira region.

Yazidi House figures show that 236 Yazidi abductees, including 180 children and 56 women, were taken away after the SDF took control of the town of al-Baghouz in eastern Deir ez-Zor, the last stronghold of ISIS, on March 23 last year.
