On Saturday, co-chair of the Health Board in al-Jazira region Dr. Manal Mohamed called on the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) to tighten their procedures regarding the implementation of the lockdown after the recording of the first death from coronavirus in North and East Syria.

In a statement to North-Press, Dr. Mohamed said that movement between cities should be reduced to the minimum level, and residents should stay indoors, calling on the internal security forces to tighten their security measures, because the next phase is more sensitive and serious.

In a statement yesterday, the Health Board in North and East Syria said that the World Health Organization did not inform the Health Board in the Autonomous Administration about a serious incident – the death of a person with coronavirus on April 2nd – and it held the WHO responsible for the presence or spread of coronavirus in its areas, accusing it of keeping a suspicious case secret without informing the Autonomous Administration that is responsible for managing these areas.

Mohamed added that the death of a person with the virus means that there are many infected cases, so they are about to isolate the family of the deceased and all those who had contact with him and examine all workers in the hospital in order to limit infected cases if they exist.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Mohamed said that the crisis management team of the Autonomous Administration will hold an emergency meeting today, Saturday, to discuss ways to prevent the spread of the virus after recording the first death case in northeastern Syria.

In a related context, yesterday, Friday, a source from the Kurdish Red Crescent told North-Press that the World Health Organization informed them that all the results of the analysis of the family of the deceased in northern and eastern Syria were negative.

The second phase of the lockdown imposed by the Autonomous Administration within its areas of control in North and East Syria ends on Tuesday, April 21st, with the possibility of extending the period of the lockdown, especially after this first case has been recorded.
